DIY: How to Make Your Own Scrabble Fridge Magnets

Some people pledge sororities in college. Others play intramural sports. And then some of us, take Scrabble classes. And you know what, I don’t regret that nerdy decision. I love word games, strategy, and competition so Scrabble is one of my games of choice (with Boggle and Yahtzee coming in close behind).

Our mid-term for the class was to memorize all of the two-letter words. You may be thinking, “what an insane thing to do,” and you would be absolutely right. However, knowing your obscure two letter words is necessary for some side-by-side power plays (that’s when you have a word on top of/next to another word so you are getting points for that word, plus all the two letter words you are creating in the side-by-side).

See. Nerd.

We also are a fridge magnet household. We like to collect magnets on our vacations, the cheesier the better. So when I got an extra set of Scrabble tiles (thanks to my dad, the ultimate picker/thrifter/junker), I knew I needed to slap some magnets on the back of these bad boys and get them up on the fridge so I can have some daily word play.

You will need:

  • Scrabble tiles (look for old sets at garage sales, flea markets, etc)
  • Magnets
  • e6000 glue

And all you need is to just sit down for 10 minutes and start glueing! It’s the easiest but most satisfying DIY.

I decided to use them to make a grocery list but you could also use them to send messages to your family/roommates.

Happy glueing!
