You know those times that you see a product and for weeks and months on end, you can’t stop thinking about it? That’s how I feel about the necklace that Serena is wearing in this picture from my 10 Questions Interview with her.
It’s amazing. It somehow walks the line of stylish, quirky, and elevated. And since I had almost all of the supplies needed, I figured I had to attempt my own version.
You will need:
- A gold chain (I went to the hardware store and had them cut to the length I wanted)
- Plastic toys (I went with dinosaurs but the options are endless)
- Jump rings and clasp
- Screw Eyes
- Vintage Costume Jewelry (I had leftovers from this)
- Needle nose pliers (or strong finger nails!)

STEP 1:
I am a fly by the seat of my pants type of crafter, so I was really happy to see that I could just hold the Screw Eyes tightly and push down and screw directly into the plastic toy. Make sure to choose a point that’s centered on the top of the toy so that it hangs evenly.
STEP 2:
Using pliers (or your fingernails like I did), twist open a jump ring. Attach the ring to the toy and then attach on the chain. Pinch closed.

STEP 3:
Continue adding screw eyes to as many toys as you want on the necklace (I did 3). Add jump rings to a few vintage pins/earrings. I had to hunt through my stash for ones that had the right sized holes to fit a jump ring through. It’s best if the jump ring is connected at the top so that it hangs evenly.
STEP 4:
I spaced out my pieces pretty evenly, but you could have fun and mess around with your spacing.

STEP 5:
Attach a jump ring to your clasp, and then attach the jump ring/clasp to one end of the chain.

STEP 6:
Rock your new quirky statement necklace!
