As much as I am yearning for cooler temps and fall colors, temperatures are still in the 90s here in LA. To make lemonade out of lemons, I decided to use that extra sunshine to do some more sun dyeing! This time, I reused a small cloth bag that once housed a CBD bath bomb, and recreated it as a little gift bag!
You will need:
Find a spot that is not in direct sunlight while you prep your project. Make sure that you have cardboard or a towel underneath your cloth so that the dye doesn’t seep through. Paint the dye on the cloth to cover the area you want dyed.
Place washi tape in whatever geometric design you fancy. Make sure that tape is all the way down so no sun seeps in as any little bit of exposed space will change color.
Place your piece in direct sunlight for about 20 minutes and watch the magic (science) happen!
Bring your piece back inside before you peel off your washi tape. If you peel it up at all while outside, it will immediately start changing color and you will lose that part of the pattern.
If you are doing a big piece, you can wash it in the washing machine with your detergent. I had a smaller piece so I washed it in the sink with hot water and then rinsed in cold water.
Let fully dry and use as a gift bag for a friend, or a good catch-all bag in your purse! Mine carried my chapstick and sunscreen all summer.
