This summer, I was one of the lucky ones chosen to serve my civic duty for 3 weeks on a jury. You read that correctly. I did 3 full weeks of jury duty this summer. And the real kicker is that I kind of enjoyed it? It definitely took a few days to get used to my new temporary jury duty life in Downtown LA but by the end of it, I figured out how to make the most of my days down there. Here are some of the tips I wish I had known going into jury duty in DTLA.

DIY: How to Make Your Own Personalized Sun Dyed Wall Art

One of the reasons that I craft is because it gives me screen-free time. Don’t get me wrong, I am a big fan of technology, television, and the internet, however, we as a society have started to depend on it as our free-time space. I come home from work, I turn on the tv. I wake up in the morning, I scroll through Instagram. It’s a nasty habit that wastes so much time.

This year, I have really focused on spending my free time doing things instead of observing things. So instead of scrolling to the end of Instagram, then scrolling to the end of Facebook, and then checking Instagram again to see if anything new has happened, I utilize them in a productive way to find active ways for me to spend my free time.

DIY: Renew an Old Stained Hat into an On-Trend Embroidered Accessory

It is officially summer time which means lazy afternoons on the couch reading a book, drinking too much La Croix, and running up the electricity bill because we live in Los Angeles and it gets hella hot here. It also means that during my evening dog walks, I need to wear a baseball hat or give in to being blinded by the sun.

The other day I went to grab one of my 2 trusty dog-walking hats and noticed that it now has some not so cute stains on the front from years of sacrificing itself for the greater good. The greater good being my forehead and eyeballs. Not wanting to toss a perfectly good hat, one that had given so much for me, I decided to focus my next project on giving my very deserving hat a makeover.
