One of the reasons that I craft is because it gives me screen-free time. Don’t get me wrong, I am a big fan of technology, television, and the internet, however, we as a society have started to depend on it as our free-time space. I come home from work, I turn on the tv. I wake up in the morning, I scroll through Instagram. It’s a nasty habit that wastes so much time.
This year, I have really focused on spending my free time doing things instead of observing things. So instead of scrolling to the end of Instagram, then scrolling to the end of Facebook, and then checking Instagram again to see if anything new has happened, I utilize them in a productive way to find active ways for me to spend my free time.

It is officially summer time which means lazy afternoons on the couch reading a book, drinking too much La Croix, and running up the electricity bill because we live in Los Angeles and it gets hella hot here. It also means that during my evening dog walks, I need to wear a baseball hat or give in to being blinded by the sun.

So when I got an invitation to a friend’s baby shower, I knew I wanted to make her a rainbow wall hanging for her nursery. I’ve also been going gaga over Feed the Fish Co.’s felt pennants so I took so inspiration and got my hands on some felt. I added my own twist by decorating the felt with hand stitching.

We are heading off on a European adventure in a few weeks so it’s time to start my travel preparation. And first thing is making sure that we can spot our luggage at the airport. Our actual luggage is pretty plain, so I plan to spruce them up a bit with these macrame keychains.
Macrame has always felt overwhelming to me. I think it’s because there are so many gorgeous giant wall hangings all over the internet that I figured that was the only way to go, by committing to a huge craft undertaking. But then I realized that a craft is what you make of it, and we all know, I like a small handheld sized craft. So I looked up some youtube videos on the basic knots and within 5 minutes, I was on my way to finishing my first macrame keychain.
