It is the middle of the summer and it has been blisteringly hot in Southern California. Since it’s too hot to actually be outside enjoying all that California has to offer, I created this new 70s retro style “Dude” cross-stitch pattern to give me those California vibes while indoors and blasting my AC.
I’m really digging the clean and colorful lines and curves of that specific 70s retro style lately and I knew I wanted to try it out in cross-stitch form. It turned out pretty great, right?! I have a few more ideas for some future patterns in the same style so stay-tuned for those.
The pattern took me about a month to stitch but that is only because I was using it primarily as my Virtual Craft Night project and so I was only working on it a few hours a week. If you were to work consistently, this dude could be stitched and completed within a week.
Hope this little guy brings you as much nostalgic joy as it brings me! He is currently posted up near the record player in our living room 🙂
It’s the holiday season and I truly had high hopes of getting lots of projects and posts out to you guys this year but life had other plans. I plan on getting a big post out to you all that explains all of the house stuff that is going on but right now we’re covered in paint, caulking, piles of lumber, and everything else you can think of when it comes to renovations. So more on that eventually!

How is it already 3 weeks to Halloween? This fall is flying by for us. Not only are we currently in the process of buying our own home (aah! I’m a grown up!) but we also found a stray dog in Griffith Park this last weekend and we registered her for Los Angeles’ new “Shelter at Home” program – you know, because we decided moving wasn’t going to be enough of a life change! So it’s fair to say, I’ve completely missed out on the Halloween fun so far this year.

Cross-stitching has a bad rap for being a dusty grandma craft (apologies to all the grandmas out there). But in recent years, cross-stitch has evolved into all sorts of genres. There’s nerdy cross-stitch, profanity-ridden cross-stitch, activism cross-stitch, and that barely scratches the surface. Basically, if you can dream it, there’s probably a cross-stitch pattern out there for it.
